As an aspiring digital marketer, I am driven by the many challenges that come with engagement, strategy, and the relentless chase that is adapting to cater to the wants and needs of an audience.
Engagement:
On paper, engagement refers to a level of interaction that is generated through digital channels. (Example: The views and likes of an Instagram Post). Through my internship phase as a Social Media Marketer at Kai Wagyu, I learned how interactions are vital toward building customer relationships.
In the topic of social media, interactions more often than not are simplified into the categories of views, likes, and followers. Although I was able to improve upon these categories, there was not an increase in sales to show for it.
From here, a new definition for engagement was formed. I began to prioritize other forms of interaction, such as profile views and link clicks. As well as, looking at those previous categories of views, likes, and followers differently. How can I drive new and active followers toward purchasing from our website?
Strategy:
The solution that I came up with was to create discount codes that I would push out toward new and recurring followers. This way, I was able to "kill two birds with one stone". I attracted new followers into purchasing from us for the first time. And on the other hand, I got past followers/customers to purchase from us again.
Adapting:
Having to stay on top of the never-ending evolution that is a customers' interests, and wants and needs, is a challenge that requires close attention. There is a large reason for this.
An average social media user spends 2hrs & 23 minutes a day on online platforms.
Being brutally honest to ourselves, this number is not decreasing anytime soon.
Taking one step further, E-commerce as a whole is only going to continue its reign in our society.
With the influx of new and emerging E-commerce businesses, will come an even more competitive landscape.
- Consumer side: Online users will all have different behaviors and personalities. Having to adapt to new trends, as well as learn the habits of your consumers is key to not only attracting new customers, but retaining customers as well.
- Digital Side: Frequent changes to the algorithm, search engines, and technological advancement as a whole is very important to keep track of because this is what the consumer sees on their way toward your business.
